The Week of Five

So this kid turned FIVE on Tuesday. That day, he looked older. He sounded older. He just SEEMED older. And he was excited. I planned on posting on Tuesday, but the day took a rather unexpected turn.

Around 11:00, his preschool called. We had one sick little boy on our hands. What a way to spend his FIFTH birthday. This poor guy ran a fever around 102 for most of the day, which meant we didn't get to enjoy our annual birthday ice cream together. We didn't eat Casey's pizza that evening. Ethan didn't eat at all. But in typical Ethan fashion, his fever broke that night just before bed, and he was "Fantastic, great, and stuff like that," by Wednesday morning. So, we kept one of our "birthday" agenda items. We went to Silver Dollar City.
And Ethan really IS taller. He finally made the cut for Thunderation. He's been trying to grow an inch and a half since Spring to meet the coveted 42" height requirement. And he made it. He's convinced it's the green beans that he's "decided" he likes. I didn't correct him. We had a blast. And he did ride that ONE coaster. But only once. To hear him talk, though, and to everyone we encounter, you'd think he rode it several times and that it was the most exhilarating experience of his little life. Nevermind that the child was terrified and hanging on for dear life!

To continue with the birthday fun, we picked up a couple shakes on the way home, ate some Casey's pizza for dinner, and played some leappad at bedtime. On Saturday, he'll enjoy his FIFTH birthday party at the Discovery Center. It's basically a science center. I'm sure it'll be a blast, and we even have people from preschool coming! He's super excited, and I'm excited for him.

All in all, this boy is having a pretty alright birthday week. This morning, he woke up and said, "Mom, I'm five." I said, "yes, you are."

He looked at me and asked, "Will you put my socks and shoes on?" Just another day.....

  2. He's so smart, and that's hilarious that the green beans are helping!
